What Eats Mosquitoes?

Natural Predators & Things You Can Do

What Eats Mosquitoes

Sometimes, nature is on your side! Learn what eats mosquitoes and helps keep your space mosquito-free. Plus, find out five things you can do when you can’t count on the natural predators to take care of your entire mosquito problem.

What Eats Mosquitoes?

Mosquitoes have many natural predators in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey, including but not limited to:

  • Spiders
  • Bats
  • Birds
  • Fish that eat mosquito larvae
  • Some frogs and tadpoles
  • Other mosquitoes
  • Dragonflies
  • Damselflies
  • Turtles

How You Can Help Control Your Mosquito Problem

Unfortunately, you can’t count on what eats mosquitoes to completely take care of your mosquito problem. There are, however, some things you can do to help the natural predators:

  1. Eliminate standing water. Mosquitoes thrive in areas with stagnant water because that’s where they lay their eggs. Remove everything that can collect water like birdbaths, containers, buckets, and trash.
  2. Use your green thumb. Mosquitoes aren’t fans of strong scents. Herbs like citronella, lavender, and rosemary can give off scents that repel mosquitoes. Try using candles and planting some of these fresh herbs; they make a great centerpiece for your table, too. Win-win.
  3. Keep your lawn tidy. Mosquitoes thrive in areas where they are safe and protected. Your unruly yard provides plenty of hiding spots. Be sure to keep your lawn neatly trimmed and get rid of yard waste that can harbor mosquitoes.
  4. Use bug spray. While this won’t kick mosquitoes out of your space, it can help prevent bites. Apply a lotion or spray repellent containing DEET (N-Diethyl-3-Methylbenzamide) to your skin. Many can prevent mosquito bites for an hour or two, though it depends on what type you use.
  5. Work with Green Pest Solutions. We know just how to handle the dangerous and pesky pests that invade the outside and inside of your home. Contact us today at 877-636-9469 for a free quote.
