Signs of a Termite Infestation
Although you may see evidence of termites inside your home, most early termite infestations are not often visible.
- Mud Tubes: Subterranean termites build shelter tubes in search of new food sources and are often discovered only after damage has occurred.
- Swarming Termites: Termite kings and queens will fly in large numbers away from the colony to create new colonies. A termite swarm indicates a mature colony which requires 3-5 years of feeding.
- Discarded Wings: As the heaviest termite infestations in PA occur between February and June, you may notice large volumes of discarded wings around sources of heat such as chimneys, furnaces, and stoves during peak termite season and after a swarm.
- Visible Destruction: Damage to wood siding, window frames, steps, flooring, joists, beams, and framework in walls is also an indication of a termite infestation.
