Are Ants Drawn to the Kitchen Sink?

Are ants drawn to a kitchen sink?

You might not be surprised to find ants crawling across your kitchen counter. Maybe you already know you can find ants in your dishwasher.

Are ants also drawn to the kitchen sink?

Are Ants Drawn to the Kitchen Sink?

The answer is a resounding YES. It’s no surprise that ants are drawn to the kitchen sink. When food and grease build-up, it’s the perfect feeding spot with a nearly endless supply of goodies.

While it might not be their first stop in your kitchen—crumbs on the floor are an easier find—it is certainly appealing. Ants will gladly climb inside and get a snack. Then, they let other members of their colony know they found food.

How to Get Rid of Ants Drawn to Your Kitchen Sink

Unfortunately, an ant-killing spray won’t get rid of ants in your sink because it would only kill the ants who are there, not the other ants in the colony who are on their way.

Thoroughly Clean Your Sink

Eliminate temptation by conducting a comprehensive cleaning! Simply scrubbing the exterior won’t suffice.

You’ll need to clean out the beginning of the pipes, too.

If you have a garbage disposal, put ice cubes down the drain. Pour vinegar on top. Turn on the water and run the garbage disposal for about 10 seconds.

If you don’t have a garbage disposal, sprinkle baking soda down the sink and then pour vinegar over top. After the mixture stops fizzing, pour boiling water down the drain.

Use a Delayed Lure

In a safe place in your kitchen, place an ant lure with a delayed poison product. Ants are social creatures and share everything with their colony. So, the ant will bring some of the “food” back and poison the entire colony, so ants will no longer be returning to your sink. But this requires a great deal of patience, and it won’t be addressing the entry point.
