Black with red/orange markings (nymphs all red); cluster on sunny walls, then move inside.
Asian Lady Beetle
Red-to-orange with variable spots and an "M" behind the head; cluster indoors in fall.
House Centipede
Large, yellowish-brown, many long flaring legs. Fast; hunts other insects in damp areas.
Silverfish
Silvery, metallic, fish-like movement; long antennae and three rear bristles. Found in damp areas.
Spider Cricket (Camel Cricket)
Tan, humpbacked, long legs and antennae; hops. Found in basements and crawl spaces. A cricket — not a spider.
Springtail
Very tiny, greyish-brown, jump when disturbed. Found in bathrooms, windows, and damp soil.
Clover Mite
Tiny, brown to bright red, easily crushed. Cluster on patios, siding, and window sills.

No — despite the name, it's a camel cricket. It doesn't bite or spin webs; it just jumps, which is why people mistake it for a spider.
Why do I get silverfish and centipedes in the same spots?
Both are drawn to moisture, so damp basements, bathrooms, and crawlspaces are common hot spots. Reducing moisture helps a lot.
