Exclusive Data: Pennsylvania Towns With the Most Bed Bug Reports

Bed bugs can appear in any home, hotel, apartment, or business. They often spread by hiding in luggage, clothing, used furniture, and other personal belongings.

Green Pest Solutions analyzed unique local service data to identify the Pennsylvania towns reporting the highest rates of bed bug activity. Homeowners, travelers, landlords, and property managers can use these findings to plan inspections, improve prevention efforts, and recognize potential problems sooner.

3 Chester 6.3× more 14.7
4 Clifton Heights 6.2× more 14.6
5 Horsham 6.1× more 14.5

Darby ranks first. Bed bug reports there occur about 8.2× more often per home than in a typical area across our service region.

A rate of represents a typical area in our service region. The further a town rises above that benchmark, the more bed bug activity our service data shows. A town’s absence from this list does not mean it is free from bed bugs.

How to spot possible bed bug activity

  • Look for bites in a line or cluster. Bed bug bites are often small and itchy and may appear on skin exposed while you sleep.
  • Check for rust-colored or dark spots. Examine sheets, mattress seams, box springs, and nearby furniture.
  • Search for eggs and shed skins. Tiny pale eggs or empty skins may be hidden in mattress seams, headboards, furniture joints, and cracks.
  • Pay attention to unusual odors. A heavier bed bug problem can sometimes produce a musty, slightly sweet smell.
  • Know what an adult bed bug looks like. Adult bed bugs are flat, reddish-brown, and approximately the size of an apple seed.

Practical ways to avoid bringing bed bugs home

  • Inspect your hotel room before unpacking. Check mattress seams and behind the headboard for spots, shed skins, or live bugs.
  • Keep luggage elevated. Place suitcases on a luggage rack instead of the bed or floor.
  • Handle travel clothing carefully. Unpack away from bedrooms and run clothing through a hot dryer for at least 30 minutes.
  • Examine secondhand furniture. Inspect seams, joints, cushions, and hidden surfaces before bringing mattresses or upholstered furniture inside.
  • Limit hiding places. Reducing clutter around beds makes it easier to inspect the area and leaves bed bugs with fewer places to hide.
  • Respond to warning signs quickly. An early professional inspection can help identify a small problem before it develops into a larger infestation.

About this unique local data

These rankings are based on bed bug service requests received by Green Pest Solutions through July 2026. Requests were grouped by service ZIP code and adjusted using U.S. Census home counts so towns of different sizes could be compared fairly.

The “× more than a typical area” figure compares each town’s report rate with the average across our service region. To keep the ranking meaningful, we include only towns with at least 8 reports and 5,000 residents. Some smaller communities are therefore not included.

Bed bugs can appear anywhere, and activity can change over time. Use this information as a planning and prevention resource, not as a guarantee that a particular property has or does not have bed bugs.
